How my approach to sun protection changed after my diagnosis

    February 23, 2023 /

Because I grew up with my dad fighting melanoma, SPF and I have been BFFs all my life, but that doesn't mean I was perfect when it came to sun protection. In fact after my diagnosis last year I sat down and took a hard look at how I approached sun care and found several obvious ways I could do better. Easy changes, that I'm very disappointed in myself for not doing sooner, but are quickly becoming habits now!

I’m Back With 22 Things That Made 2022

    January 4, 2023 /

I am back and although this wasn’t a fully planned break, it was much needed. My cancer diagnosis was a blow I wasn’t expecting and it really took it out of me – not physically, just emotionally. After processing that news I tried to get back into writing and posting, but honestly, I had a lot going on the last two months. The holidays are always crazy, trying to balance family and friends, everyone wants to do stuff, and on top of it all, the husband and I went on a very dumb but very fun camping trip. Also, I basically was sick from Halloween, until sometime last week. Don’t…

    I have cancer.

    November 21, 2022 /

I wasn't going to make this a blog post, but as I've tried to work through this over the past few weeks, it's become really clear that I need to. One, because this blog is where I figure life out. This is where I go to share what I'm going through and work through it. Also, since getting this news I've sat down to write about other things, regularly scheduled content, and it just didn't feel important. This is all I've wanted to write about. And lastly, I've been searching the internet trying to find someone, anyone, to tell me it was ok to feel the way I feel and…

    Melanoma Awareness Month

    May 11, 2020 /

Did you know that although it is the least common form of skin cancer, melanoma is the most deadly? For women ages 25-30 it is the leading cause of cancer death, second leading cause of cancer death for women 30-35. For both men and women, ages 15-29, it is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer and approximately 500 children in the US are diagnosed with melanoma each year. This year (2020) it is estimated that over 196,000 Americans will be diagnosed with melanoma and 6,850 Americans will lose their fight with this deadly cancer.

    10 Years

    June 9, 2019 /

This Tuesday (6/11) marks the 10 year anniversary of my high school graduation. The ending of one chapter and the start of a new. For everyone, their high school graduation means change and new beginnings. It's one of the many stepping stones into adulthood. For me it marked the beginning of the end in many ways, and that sounds much more dramatic than I intended, but I can't think of a better way to say it. This wasn't just the closing of my childhood chapter and beginning of my adulthood one, it was the first nail in the door to my childhood. Before the calendar year would end my life…

Not only are the falls gorgeous but the entire hike up was too. Totally worth wading through knee deep water a dozen times.

I used to do "dumb" things like this all the time I used to do "dumb" things like this all the time in Hawaii. Hiking in the rain, crossing deep, rough water. But for some reason when there's a chill in the air and the water is a bit icy, it's a bit more intimidating. No less fun, but more intimidating for sure!
