Happy Birthday Teddy’s Bigger Burgers

This week Teddy’s Bigger Burgers turned 21! On April 15th, 1998 the first Teddy’s Bigger Burgers opened up at the foot of Diamond Head on Oahu serving fresh ground chuck burgers, fries and shakes. Today Teddy’s can now be found all across Oahu as well as on Maui, in Washington, Iowa, and even internationally. For a while there was even one located in Fullerton, CA, not too far from my hometown. (Although I never ate at this location, it was always on my list to try.)

Teddy’s may not have been my #1 burger on Oahu, but it definitely became a big part of my life on Oahu. Burgers are very important to me and before leaving California I was always on the hunt for the next best burger. After moving to Oahu it was hard to find good burgers, especially the California greasy spoon style burger (1/4 lb burger with thousand island dressing) that meant so much to me. Teddy’s doesn’t offer the California style burger I was looking for, but it filled a void for me and I will always be super thankful for that.

From the very first time I ate at Teddy’s, I knew he and I were going to become very good friends and that I would be spending a lot of time with him. With so many locations around Oahu, Teddy’s quickly became my go-to burger when I needed some quick, greasy comfort food.

My go-to burgers include their Bacado (bacon, cheddar and avocado), Kailua (teriyaki sauce, Swiss, mushrooms, and grilled onions), Kaneohe (Garlic, bacon, cheddar and avocado) and their Nom Nom (garlic, Swiss, bacon, and grilled onions). My husband loved their Kilauea Fire (fire BBQ sauce, bacon, onion rings and cheddar). When it came to sides I loved their sweet potato fries, while my husband preferred to keep it more traditional with their plain fries or tater tots. If you’re feeling fancy I highly recommend giving their Umami Style fries (garlic, furikake and sriracha aioli) a try.

Beyond just burgers, Teddy’s has killer fish & chips and chicken strips. Looking for something sweet? Their shakes will hit the spot. I personally love their Nutella and haupia chocolate.

Happy Birthday Teddy’s! I miss you and will always remember you fondly.
