Reflecting on my “Month of Me” – I accidentally took almost two months off
The last blog post I wrote was over six weeks ago, my "Month of Me" post. When I declared May the month of me and wrote that post I didn't mean to take any time off from this blog, let alone nearly two months, but looking back at it, that may have been a good thing. Even though I love writing and I love sharing, and I love writing this blog, taking the pressure of having to write every week gave me the opportunity to fully commit to my month of me and prioritize some other things. And I think I came out of the month with some good habits…

It’s been decided, I’m declaring May the month of Me
That's it. I've decided. Not to take away from the all-important and close to my heart, melanoma awareness month, May is officially the month of Me. And I don't mean that in any sort of selfish way. I'm making May the month of Me because I need it. I need it for my health, my sanity, and my overall well-being.

You’ll fall in love with Malibu’s Escondido Falls
Located near Malibu, Escondido Falls is a waterfall I have had on my to-do list since moving back to California. However, it is a seasonal waterfall and a 90-minute drive from my home, so I never made the time to trek all the way out there with my fingers crossed that it would be flowing. But this year's unusually wet winter took luck out of the equation.

Millard Canyon Falls: The Perfect Short Waterfall Hike In LA
A short, gorgeous, and for the most part family-friendly, after only a few minutes into our hike I knew Millard Canyon Falls was going to be on my list of favorite waterfall hikes in SoCal! Located near Altadena, CA, according to AllTrails, Millard Canyon Falls is 1.2 miles round trip with only a 256-foot elevation gain. When my husband and I did the hike we tracked 1.58 miles with a 371-foot elevation gain. We spent only 90 minutes on the trail with about an hour and 15 minutes of that moving.

I binge-watched Tiny Beautiful Things and I have no regrets
Hulu premiered a new miniseries, Tiny Beautiful Things, earlier this month. The past few weeks have been crazy busy for me. Lots of hiking (hopefully lots of content coming soon), work has been really busy, and I've been focusing a lot on eating better and working out, so I haven't had much time to watch TV. I've got my regulars I watch while I clean or work out or during my lunch break occasionally, but I had no interest in adding anything new to my rotation. I just didn't have the time.

Beautiful Waterfall Hike in Lytle Creek
In case you missed it, a few weeks ago California was hit with some unusual snow. The mountain communities here in SoCal were pummeled with unusually high snowfall. It was so cold and so wet here where I live that even the communities down here in the Valley saw snow. Real snow. Not just hail or flurries that melted once they hit the ground. Actual snow. (Not enough to do anything with, but having grown up in this area, it was a big deal.)

Confession Time: I Obsess and Overthink Everything (Almost)
You see I'm the person that will write and re-write an email or a text over and over again obsessing over every word, even when it's not an important message. When someone takes too long to write me back I'll worry that my sense of humor or sarcasm was misread and literally have to stop myself from texting back to clarify (99% of the time I'm reading into nothing and logically I know that, but that doesn't help me). How my approach to sun protection changed after my diagnosis
Because I grew up with my dad fighting melanoma, SPF and I have been BFFs all my life, but that doesn't mean I was perfect when it came to sun protection. In fact after my diagnosis last year I sat down and took a hard look at how I approached sun care and found several obvious ways I could do better. Easy changes, that I'm very disappointed in myself for not doing sooner, but are quickly becoming habits now!

Hiking The Slot in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
This past weekend, my husband and I finally got around to hauling our butts nearly three hours down to Anza-Borrego Desert State Park to hike one of the best-known slot canyons in Southern California, The Slot. The Slot is a slot canyon hike (obviously) located in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, down in San Diego county. The trail is a 2.3-mile loop and is rated moderate according to AllTrails.
