Visiting the Oldest Operating Bob’s Big Boy

    September 10, 2023 / 0 Comments

Bob's Big Boy - Burbank, opened its doors in 1949, but the Bob's Big Boy franchise began over a decade earlier in 1936. In 1936, Bob's Big Boy creator, Bob Wian, sold his car for $300 and bought a ten-stool lunch stand called "The Pantry" which he then changed to "Bob's Pantry." This would be the first of what would eventually become Bob's Big Boy.

Millard Canyon Falls: The Perfect Short Waterfall Hike In LA

    April 24, 2023 / 0 Comments

A short, gorgeous, and for the most part family-friendly, after only a few minutes into our hike I knew Millard Canyon Falls was going to be on my list of favorite waterfall hikes in SoCal! Located near Altadena, CA, according to AllTrails, Millard Canyon Falls is 1.2 miles round trip with only a 256-foot elevation gain. When my husband and I did the hike we tracked 1.58 miles with a 371-foot elevation gain. We spent only 90 minutes on the trail with about an hour and 15 minutes of that moving.

Murphy Ranch – Old Nazi Compound in the Santa Monica Mountains

    June 5, 2022 / 2 Comments

Did you know there is an old Nazi sympathizer compound hidden away in the Santa Monica Mountains? (Or at least the start of what was to be a Nazi sympathizer compound.) Accessible via a moderately rated 3.4-mile hike in Rustic Canyon, Murphy's Ranch is a peek into some of the bizarre histories of LA.

Eating My Way Through the LA County Fair

    October 5, 2019 / 0 Comments

The LA County Fair was the first place my husband and I went after officially becoming boyfriend and girlfriend way back when. After that we spent every anniversary we had at the LA County Fair until we moved to Hawaii. While in Hawaii we tried to appease our fair desires with the Hawaii State Fair, but it paled in comparison. So, for nearly four years we waited for our chance to re-establish our LA County Fair tradition.

    Hermit and Sturtevant Falls

    September 23, 2019 / 0 Comments

One of the many trails that begin at Chantry Flats in the San Gabriel Mountains, Hermit Falls and Sturtevant Falls are individual hikes that can be tackled independently or together in a little over 5 miles long loop. Me and my hiking partners decided to tackle the loop.

    Switzer Falls

    August 22, 2019 / 0 Comments

Switzer Falls is one of the most visually exciting hikes I have done here in Southern California thus far. At a little over 4 miles round trip, the trail travels up and down a narrow valley in the Angeles National Forest. At some parts of the trail you will see remnants of old roads, other parts you will be traveling casually along a stream, and the next moment you will be climbing up high above the trees. Although a tad strenuous this trail will keep you intrigued the entire way.

    Old LA Zoo

    May 25, 2019 / 0 Comments

I did a fair amount of hiking in California before moving to Oahu, but it wasn't until I was living on the islands that I first heard of the Old LA Zoo Hike. I'm not exactly sure how I first heard of it, I'm pretty sure I came across it while doing some research on the abandoned zoo on Oahu. However, no matter how I came across it, as soon as I heard about it, and saw the pictures, I knew I had to go.
